semana clásica de puerto sherry 2014
Once again Classic Week is coming to the Bay of Cadiz, and both Puerto Sherry, El Puerto de Santa Maria and the Bay itself are decked out to welcome these jewels of naval artistic heritage that every two years come to sail our waters.
Once again, the 15 IM Class season begins in Puerto Sherry, accompanied by numerous Spanish and international boats. The week began with a press presentation and training regatta for the 15 IM Class and some of the participants in the classic class. After this day the participants enjoyed the welcome offered at the Bodegas Osborne.
The regatta began on Thursday 24th July, with two exciting races for the 15 IM class, which were cut short by breakages, first The Lady Anne, which broke the tiller before the start, and on the other hand Hispania, which after an impressive comeback broke the spinnaker, finally coming third in both races, leaving Tuiga as the winner, accompanied by Mariska. The classic fleet sailed a committed coastal race in which the local Giraldilla was victorious, followed by the Portuguese Sea Lion.
After the races, the participants enjoyed the reception held on the terrace of the Hotel Puerto Sherry where they could discuss all the events of the exciting day.
Friday dawned with the uncertainty of the repair of The Lady Anne, which was finally able to participate in the two races that the 15MI class was able to compete in, but not before having to carry out an emergency repair on the race course in order to be able to compete. The Lady Anne took first place in the first race and Mariska won the second, leaving the classification very tight in the fight for victory between Tuiga and Mariska for the final day. The classic fleet sailed a coastal race in which the Orion won, followed by the Giraldilla, leaving the classification for these two boats after the poor performance of the Sea Lion on this day, for which it was relegated to third place.
The final day saw a light breeze that allowed Mariska to take the Classic Week victory tied on points with Tuiga, with Hispania, after a meritorious second place, and The Lady Anne also tied. The classic fleet saw Giraldilla take the partial victory and consequently the overall, followed by Orion. A spectacular start for the boat that once belonged to Don Juan de Borbón.
The Semana Clásica closed with the traditional trophy presentation party which took place on the Terraza of the Hotel Puerto Sherry, with all the participants being summoned for the next edition, that of 2016.
