The regatta between the ‘Señores del Mar’ starts today in the waters of Cádiz bay.
El Puerto de Santa María, 27th June 2024 – The terrace of the Puerto Sherry Hotel was the setting for the opening ceremony of the Semana Clásica de Puerto Sherry, which celebrates its seventh anniversary in Cadiz waters from today until Saturday 29th June, with three days of competition that represent a journey through time, where elegance and tradition evoke the glory of sailing in the past.
The ceremony began with welcome speeches by the president of the Puerto Sherry Sailing Club, Valle de la Riva; the member of the Classic Sailing Committee of the Puerto Sherry Sailing Club, Álvaro González Camacho; the vice president of the Classic Sailing Foundation, Petete Rubio; the president of the Andalusian Sailing Federation and vice president of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Paco Coro, and closing the ceremony, the 1st Deputy Mayor of El Puerto de Santa María City Council and national deputy, Javier Bello.
They were joined in the official photo by some representatives of the administrations that sponsor and collaborate in the regatta, among others, the president of the Naval Regatta Commission, Federico Supervielle; the territorial delegate of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Tania Barcelona; the commissioner of the National Police, José Miguel Sáenz; the lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard of the Sea, Alejandro Anelo, and Ana María Sanjuan, councillor of the City Council of Cádiz.
Participants and staff then enjoyed a dinner hosted by the Puerto Sherry Hotel restaurant run by chef Antonio Caramé, which also featured a variety of ‘El Bucarito’ cheeses. During the ceremony, the EcoSails project was unveiled, which represents one of the ecological faces of the Fundación Vela Clásica de España. Each bag, toiletry bag or suitcase made from recycled sails contributes to the reduction of waste and encourages the responsible use of resources.
The VII Semana Clásica de Puerto Sherry, which takes place between Thursday and Saturday 29th June, is a biennial regatta organised by the Club Náutico Puerto Sherry and the Fundación Vela Clásica de España, with the main sponsorship of the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación de Cádiz, Marina Puerto de Santa María, the firms Grupo Cuñado and Grupo Omega, together with Gipsy Blu 1927 and Bodegas Miguel Domecq – Entrechuelos, the Diputación de Cádiz, Marina Puerto de Santa María, and the firms Grupo Cuñado and Grupo Omega, together with Gipsy Blu 1927 and Bodegas Miguel Domecq – Entrechuelos, and the collaboration of the City Council of El Puerto de Santa María as an asset of the summer in the port.
